Biography
Iyamide Mahalia Coniah is an amateur Muay Thai fighter out of Edmonton, Alberta, with heritage from Sierra Leone. Her path to combat sports came after major life changes — including the courage to leave a difficult situation — and finding a gym where her fiancé, a professional MMA fighter, became her coach and biggest supporter. Nine months after her first class in 2019, her coach asked if she wanted to fight. She said sure. She came home with her first win before her 30th birthday. The rest is history.
In June 2023, Mahalia had the opportunity to compete at the WBC World Championships in Venice, Italy, fighting to bring home a silver medal for Team Canada. Her amateur record as of 2023 stands at 5-3 in Muay Thai and 2-0 in Boxing. Her background in sport began after losing her father to drowning at age 6 — a moment that pushed her into competitive swimming as a form of healing. Over the years she also competed in Track and Field, Basketball, and Baseball. What she loves most about Muay Thai is that you are never done learning. The sport has brought a community, renewed confidence, and a drive to inspire future generations to step into the ring.
